Social Media Unplugged 📲❌

I just spent 4 days unplugged from social media and here's what happened...

I am probably one of the biggest advocates for monetizing your social media, but I'm also the first to admit that I sometimes have an unhealthy attachment to my phone. So let's talk about this because I'm pretty sure I'm not alone.

Social media is fantastic. It allows us to connect with people all over the globe and for me personally, it has allowed me to create a multi million dollar business right from the palm of my hand. Most people only dream of the lifestyle I've created for myself, but if I'm not careful it becomes a double edged sword.

The constant notifications and internal urges to check your phone every 5 minutes can seriously derail you from your goals. You may find yourself endlessly scrolling or going down a rabbit hole of comparison. And when that happens our brains become overstimulated which means nothing new can come in. It inhibits our creativity and can be come a nasty virus that ravages our bodies and minds if we let it.

Last month I found myself in that situation. I was trying to launch my blog, get a course going, get my business back into momentum after a lull, be a good mom, be a good wife, while also buying a new home and dealing with the ongoing drama surrounding my father in law's terminal illness. My husband is an only child, so it's been quite a heavy weight for us and we nearly lost him back in February.

I felt like I hit a wall. I was depressed. I found myself on an emotional roller coaster drowning myself in tears and I wasn't moving forward. I knew that I had to unplug. 🔌 I needed some space to think. And just like every other time I've unplugged for a few days I immediately started having mental clarity. Within the first 24 hours I had so many new ideas and had mapped out my content for the next month. Every single time. It never fails. So why in the hell am I so resistant to putting my phone down? When I know magic happens when I do?!

I'm pretty sure it's designed that way-- to suck us in. It's an advertisers dream come true because we're so addicted we can't put it down and we're willingly giving them all the information they need to advertise to us. Even though I'm very aware of this, I still get sucked into the matrix we call social media.

As I was sitting in the soaking tubs at @sunwaterspa on day 1 it hit me that I need this. This is vital to my business, my mental health and my productivity, so I decided that I'm going to do this every month for a 4 day weekend.
I had to remind myself that #1 my business will not fall apart. I've created a biz that works even when I'm not working. #2 there's nothing going on that's more important than taking care of me because I can't pour from an empty cup. It's a non-negotiable.

So yes I love social. yes, it's changed my life, but I also need a break from it on a regular basis. And so do you. So here's the #SocialCelebrity telling you, hey let's take a break together. Let's carve out time on our calendar every month to intentionally unplug and recharge our batteries.

I'm curious, what's the longest you've gone without being on social media and how did it affect you?!
